Mastering Curtain Measurements
Your Step-by-Step Curtain Measurement
Guide
Tools You’ll Need:
Step 1: Decide the Curtain Style
Before measuring, decide the type of curtains you want:
Floor-Length Curtains: For a formal and dramatic look.
Window-Length Curtains: Ideal for casual or smaller spaces.
Step 2: Measure the Window Width
● Use a metal measuring tape for accuracy.
● Measure the width of the window or the curtain rod.
● For a fuller look, multiply the width by 2 or 3

Step 3: Measure the Window Height
For Floor-Length Curtains: Measure from the top of the curtain rod to the floor. Add 5-7.5cm if you want the curtains to pool on the floor.
For Window-Length Curtains: Measure from the top of the curtain rod to 2.5-5cm below the window sill.
Step 4: Choose the Curtain Rod Position
Standard Placement: 10–15cm above the window frame.
High and Wide Placement: Hang the rod closer to the ceiling and extend it 20-30cm beyond the window frame for a grander appearance.
Tips for a Perfect Fit
1. Always double-check your measurements.
2. Use a sturdy and level curtain rod.
3. For heavier fabrics, ensure the rod and brackets are strong enough to support the weight.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Measuring only the window frame: Include rod extensions for better coverage.
Forgetting to account for curtain rings or hooks: This can affect the final height.
Not considering fabric shrinkage: Wash or iron your fabric before measuring.
